Shirley BiroShirley was born in Newham, brought up in Leytonstone, moved back to Newham in 1966 and is currently living in East Ham.  She has been involved with  Conflict and Change in various capacities since 1989.

Shirley is also the Lay Chair for the Newham Deanery. In this capacity she represents the laity of the Anglican churches in the borough and serves on the London-over-the-Border funding council, the Diocesan Synod and the Deanery Committee.  Shirley attends St Bartholomew’s Church in East Ham where she is licensed as a Pastoral Assistant. 

Shirley is also a trustee of Your Space E16, a project offering counselling and life skill workshops in the Canning Town area, is an Anglican representative on Transform Newham’s small grants funding committee for inter-church social action projects and is a trained Mediator with Bridge Builders, a branch of the London Mennonite Centre which offers a mediation service and training resource for churches.

Shirley’s hobbies include swimming, Scrabble and grandchildren.
