Who We Are

Posted in

Conflict and Change is a voluntary organisation building bridges of understanding within and between communities in Newham, East London, one of the most diverse areas of the United Kingdom. In 2010 we celebrated 25 years of bringing Newham people together.

We do this through:

- A community Conflict Resolution service that uses mediation to support neighbours, families and community groups who are experiencing conflict.

- A Community Development programme that works with diverse groups to plan and run inter-faith activities, building cooperation, trust and understanding between them.

- Community Conversations which bring together diverse people from a neighbourhood or shared space to get to know each other and talk about “hot” community issues.

- Training programmes in communication skills, facilitation and mediation.

- Education programmes for children, young people and the adults who work with them.

- Working with diverse, local volunteers in all our programmes and who strengthen our connection with the communities we serve.

We have a holistic approach to responding to conflict and all our activities are closely interlinked, drawing upon a core set of communication skills. Read about our history and find out how it all started as the UK's first community mediation service.

Our current 2011 Annual Report and 2010 Annual Report will give you some more detail on our recent activities, and you can also find out about how we'd like to develop in the future by checking out our 2007-2012 Strategic Plan.
