Remembering Conflict & Change in your Will is a great way to ensure we can keep bringing Newham people together well into the future.
With the support of local people we’ve been working with the community here for 25 years now, and we hope to be around for much longer still. You can play an important part in making that happen. The unfortunate truth is that in today’s competitive environment it is a struggle for us, and many other small charities, to gain enough funding to ensure we can finance our projects fully, plan ahead and expand our areas of work.
Why make a Will?
Making a Will is the only way to be certain that your money and your belongings go to the people and causes that are important to you. It’s also a way to give later, if you can’t give right now. You may have benefited from our work in the past or just feel passionate about the same things as us - creating a vibrant community in Newham where people have experience and skills to live and work together.
What other benefits are there?
Charities are exempt from income tax, inheritance tax (currently 40% tax on estates over £250,000) and capital gains tax. So leaving a legacy to charity is a good way of reducing the amount of tax payable on your estate, meaning your money goes where you want it to.
How do I do it?
You can leave a legacy (gift in your Will) in different forms;
- A lump sum (pecuniary legacy)
- A percentage of the value of your estate after taxes or monies owed are paid (residue)
- Specific items (such as real estate, shares, antiques)
- If you have already made your Will, it is easy to make an adjustment (a codicil) with a solicitor’s help.
When making your Will, it is very important to ensure you have the correct contact details.
