Our work with St John’s Community Centre in North Woolwich and Silvertown offered an opportunity to build links with local neighbourhoods in an area where community spirit is at low ebb. Further to the party, a group of locals who called themselves Dockside Neighbours, met regularly at St John’s Community Centre to both know each other, build connections, and revive community life in the area. They also formed a Singing Group that meets every Wednesday at 10.00am at St John’s community Centre. Now the Dockside Neighbours decided it is time to repeat the success of the last year’s event. Conflict & Change Community Development team supported them to organize a party to build community spirit in the North Woolwich and Silvertown area. The party took place on Saturday, 20th Feb, at St. Johns Community Centre (Albert Road, E16 2JB). Over 100 local inhabitants came along for a fun packed afternoon. There were activities for children and for adults, human bingo to help people get to know each other, competitions and a raffle with prizes. |
