ChangeMakers film event

Changemakers group

Daniel, after completing the ChangeMakers training went on to organize a initiative to bring his neighbours together. His aim was for people to get to know each other and to learn about different cultures.

Being a film-maker he understood the power of the cinema. He decided to invite people to his house to for a film afternoon.  He chose to watch “Grow you own” an inspiring community development related film about how a traditional white British allotment group adapted to refugees from different countries.

He did the outreach with his daughter, invited neighbors from his street. With many of them he spoke for the first time but he was happy about the response. Nieghbours showed much interest in the event, saying they would be happy to be part of it though for some of them the time was not convenient.

Daniel planned carefully his event. Although there were hardly any expenses involved he secured some basic refreshments and also made sure there were enough games and toys for the children. He also thought of games for the adults.

At the event his whole family was present and a neighbour Abbym with her children. They were joined by Anna – C&C volunteer who lives locally and also participated in the Agata with Changemakers groupChangemakers training.

Anna says: It was a very pleasant afternoon. Refreshments were provided and the atmosphere was very friendly and warm. I think that Daniel is a very good host. I enjoyed watching the film, it is very beautiful. I hope there will be more events like that organized in the future”.

Quote from Daniel “The highlight of the event was the time at the end of the event. That we all felt confident enough to share experiences about life in the area. We did not have close contact with our neighbour before but now we managed to build trust, we talk freely, we go and visit each other. Our children did not know each other before but now they go and play together. The event was successful. The road begun and we have to organise other events. I am sure that other people will be happy to join, now they know about it and they will want to get involved”
